Chapter 9: Human Resource Management

In the workplace, there are many terms and acronyms used. Most acronyms are related to a group or a department and at the high level, a company. However, one of the acronyms used by PMI is RACI, which stands for “Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed.” This chart is used widely around different companies, and hence is a very important acronym to remember and learn. Simply put:

R – responsible is the person working on the activity

A - accountable is person with decision authority

C – consult is the key stakeholder who should be included in decision or work activity

I – informed is the person who needs to know of a decision or action.

Having said that, here’s a video to further explain the concept in simple terms so it’s easy to understand:

 A simple chart that lays out the tasks on the left hand side, the roles on the top and the responsibilities assigned to them is called a RACI chart. It looks something like this and it is used widely in the workforce, as mentioned above:
