Chapter 5: Project Scope Management
Importance: 6 (there are a few questions related to this topic)
Work Breakdown Structure is a "deliverable oriented hierarchical decomposition of the work to be executed by the project team." It basically defines the scope and breaks it down into work packages (PMI word) so they can be easily looked at and understood by the team.
The work breakdown structure is one of the elements of the scope baseline, which consists of the project scope statement, WBS (work breakdown structure), WBS dictionary.
Under the work breakdown structure, there’s another term that’s important: decomposition. Decomposition is defined as subdividing the project scope and project deliverables into smaller, more manageable components to the level of work packages.
Work breakdown structures are used as a guide to finishing the work in an organized manner, since it contains the work packages with the people who work on it assigned to it.
